Moorlands Nursery – set them on the right path

Why choose Moorlands Nursery for your child?

The answer is simple; because every child deserves the best possible start.

The importance of Nursery provision is often underestimated as simply a childcare issue. At Moorlands, we think of Nursery as playing a vital role in a child’s educational journey. After all, this is their first experience of a learning environment away from home. It is where crucial social skills are learnt and it is where a love of learning can be born. It is important to get this first step right.

But “right” is different for every child – especially in the Early Years. And this is where Moorlands’ inclusive approach and our qualified and experienced staff are key. Every child at Moorlands Nursery is valued as an individual and our dedicated staff make it a priority to learn their interests and idiosyncrasies to make sure that learning and play are tailored around these. We work hard to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where all our Nursery children feel safe and happy to try all the wonderful things on offer.

And what a choice they have! Whether in our recently refurbished classrooms or out in our idyllic grounds – complete with our own woodland area and extensive play facilities – we offer a variety of activities to encourage development and make learning fun. Our older pupils from further up the school love visiting Nursery through our “Buddies” System and there is nothing our youngest pupils love more than spending time with “the big ones” – many of whom started in Nursery themselves!

We are delighted that so many of our Nursery children move on to Moorlands Reception and then continue their educational journey with us – all the way up to Year 6. Children who attend Moorlands Nursery are given priority when allocating Reception places  and we now only have 2 places remaining for Reception 2022 – another reason why we encourage parents to look at the bigger picture when considering Nursery options. Whilst Moorlands Nursery offers all the conveniences of stand-alone nurseries; wraparound care and on-site holiday provision – it is also a gateway into an exceptional primary education, giving children the best possible start.

Wendy Cooper, Head of Early Years talks about what makes Moorlands Nursery so special…

I have worked at Moorlands nearly 17 years – I started in September 2004. My favourite thing about my job is the variety. No two days are the same when you are teaching young children and managing an Early Years department. Each day my main aim is for the children to be happy and settled and wanting to come to Nursery. I achieve this by developing close bonds with each child in my class, so they trust me and want to spend time with me. Because I know each of the children so well, this enables me to be able to support them to reach their full potential.

Moorlands is different from other nurseries because we take a holistic approach to teaching and learning. By valuing similarities and differences, we foster respect and tolerance for each other. The education we provide is delivered by caring and knowledgeable teachers and practitioners. As well as all the activities the children can engage with in the classroom, they also have access to an outdoor educational programme and specialist teaching in Music, Drama, Swimming and French.

I appreciate that finding the right nursery provision for their child is a huge decision for parents to make.  At Moorlands, they can be reassured that every member of staff has their child’s best interests at the heart of their practice, demonstrated through the care and education they provide on a daily basis. The strong relationships between Moorlands Nursery staff, parents and their children are built on trust and respect and are one of the most important things that Moorlands offers the families of the children under our care. We understand that, for the benefit of the child, open communication between all parties is crucial. Our staff team is made up of caring and competent professionals who will always ‘go the extra mile’ for the children and families they work with.

The end result is that the children at Moorlands Nursery are happy, confident, respectful and engaged individuals.
